Employment Practices Liability is a type of insurance covering wrongful acts arising from the employment process. In today’s growing litigious society, employment related claims has being increasing steadily over the past 10 years. While standardly larger companies with high employee counts obtain this coverage, even the smaller “mom and pop” shops are not safe from a disgruntled employee or former employee. Even in cases where the company has not violated any employment laws, the cost of defense (which can be upwards of $200,000 and take up to 18-24 months to resolve) can nearly bankrupt the business for proving their innocence.

Employment Practices Liability Insurance (EPLI) will respond and mitigate costs for legal defense, court fees and judgement amounts, but will not respond to punitive damages awarded by the courts.

EPLI policies provide protection from claims arising from:

  • Wrongful Terminationinvasion of privacy
  • Discrimination
  • Sexual Harassment
  • Defamation of Character
  • Invasion of Privacy
  • Failure to Promote

Most carriers are able to add some coverage onto existing Commercial Liability policies, and separate policies can be purchased for higher limits. We recommend discussing this coverage with your agent, or give us a call here at Henry M. Murray Agency, Inc. and we will gladly provide you with multiple options.
