BE CAREFUL WHERE YOU DRIVE YOUR CAR…
WHO PAYS FOR DAMAGE TO YOUR VEHICLE IF DAMAGED BY RIOTING?
Lately, it seems like every time you turn on the television, there are people in the streets demonstrating. There have been some unfortunate times during these demonstrations where people get out of hand, and decide to damage other people’s property, whether it is smashing out the glass to a vehicle, or actually setting the vehicle on fire.
While most people watching these demonstrations sit there thinking, ” I sure hope the owner of that vehicle has it insured“, the insurance agents watching are thinking, “ Wow… the owner of that vehicle is going to be extremely angry when they find out that damage may not be covered under their insurance policy”.
Even though Vandalism is covered under your COMPREHENSIVE Coverage, You might also want to make sure that it also states that a Civil Disturbance ( like a riot that results in damage or destruction of your car ) is also covered under your insurance policies COMPREHENSIVE Coverage language. It might state the following:
- Any damage to the car due to war, terror attacks, invasion, foreign enemy action, civil war, mutiny, rebellion and hostilities IS NOT COVERED under a standard motor policy.
So, before you decide to drive around to see what is going on during a demonstration in or around your area, you might want to either NOT GO, or ride a bike. That way you don’t have to worry about your vehicle not being covered if it is damaged while attending.
Please be safe.
